Some people climb mountains for real. Not me. But I will use it as a metaphor anyway. It helps me to give words to the journey that painting sometimes is to me.
“The sensation when the painting is there”
A white canvas can be really overwhelming. I have an idea of where it needs to go. But then … I need to decide on the colors I will use. Having to feel through every step. Sometimes bold and big. Sometimes little and careful. Slowly the picture unfolds. Always different than planned. The sensation when the painting is there. When I have conquered the canvas.
Although I have never climbed a mountain, let alone stood on the top of one, I imagine it feeling something like that.
